About Us

House & Hosts

Rosewood is a beautifully restored Bed & Breakfast close to the centre of Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand. Stephan keeps the garden immaculately and we are so lucky with the climate here that we have roses almost year round.  The Camellia's and Rhododendrons also do really well here and we never have to worry about not enough water of course.

With 4 spacious, individually furnished rooms (3 with ensuite bathrooms), private lounge/dining room, and quiet gardens Rosewood is ideally situated for holiday makers, small groups of friends and business people. There is plenty of parking either off-street behind the house or on the road in front.  Rosewood is only 10-15 minutes walk from the centre of Greymouth with its cafes, restaurants, shops and galleries or 5 minutes to the new Grey District Aquatic Centre if you fancy a swim or some exercise.

The House

Rosewood was built around the early 1920's as a Gentleman's residence by the local Bookmaker so obviously no expense was spared.  Native timbers were used extensively throughout this grand old character home, wood paneling in the entrance hallway and lead light windows.

Today Rosewood has retained these features combining modern luxuries such as ensuite bathrooms in 3 rooms (one with facilities for the disabled) and a huge guest share bathroom for the remaining room, tasteful furnishings with top quality King and Queen sized beds (crisp cotton linen, your choice of pillows, cosy duvets and extra woollen blankets). There is Off-street parking to the rear and Wheelchair access. We have installed a Heat Reticulation Ventilation system to ensure continuous clean air and dry rooms which is especially great for Asthma sufferers.

Rosewood offers a relaxed atmosphere and you are invited to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with home-made biscuits/slice while you unwind from your travels and activities of the day sitting in the bay window, at our rimu table or on the couch in the Guest lounge with a newspaper or a book or magazine from the bookcase.  This room is warmed with a Pellet Fire for those cooler months.

Breakfast is a choice of cereals, fresh orange juice, yoghurt, fresh fruit salad, toast plus Rhonda's fresh bread, rolls or muffins served with a choice of preserves and honey's plus a great selection of teas and filter coffee. We also offer cooked breakfasts beautifully presented by Stephan with free range eggs (cooked how you like them) with or without bacon, tomato and mushrooms to give you a great start to the day.  We cater for all dietary requirements so please do let us know if you would like us to be aware of anything.

Your Hosts

Dave and Ann-Maree are originally from Australia.  They have a diverse background with Ann-Maree working in the Childcare sector and Dave working in the mining and Emergency Services fields.

Dave came to Greymouth in 2008 and stayed at Rosewood for a month whilst working at a local mine.  He fell in love with Rosewood and brought Ann-Maree and their two younger children to stay at the house three times between 2011 and 2015.  During these visits Dave and Ann-Maree fell in love with the West Coast and Greymouth and they decided that they should move to the area if the opportunity arose.

In September 2016 Dave secured a position in Greymouth and around the same time Rosewood became available and they decided to embark on their next adventure, bringing with them their two younger children Blake and Imogen.

The family have embraced the West Coast with Blake and Imogen able to inform you about some of the best local walks and photo stops.  Dave and Ann-Maree are always happy to sit down over a coffee or tea and help you plan your activities on the West Coast or plan your travel as they have been tourists here as well.

Please feel free to ask for any assistance that may make your stay more enjoyable.
